Hi. I’m Rach. I’m a music teacher, mum of a wonderful son, singer, thespian, geeky game enthusiast, lover of Burlesque, speaker of Klingon (yes, really!), killer of numerous innocent house plants, and now, apparently, blogger extraordinaire. 😇

I’m also autistic, having finally worked that out 2 years ago at the age of 19. 🤥

Ok ok fine. 39. 🧓

Welcome to my blog, the Sparkly Unicorn Society. If you want to know why it’s called that, you’ll just have to read it, won’t you? 🤷

Disclaimer: while I have several qualifications in the fields of psychology and mental health (some specifically autism-related, some not but still relevant and useful) I am NOT in any way a

medical professional. My blog shares my own experiences of autism (and those of others, with permission), and is intended to offer help, support, and possibly the odd giggle, to those interested in reading it. In absolutely no way should anything I write be taken as actual medical advice. Always seek professional medical help if you need to. ⚕️

A word on language – there are many different ways to write about autistic people, people with autism, people who have autism (three examples right there) and we all have our own preferences. Some like terms like “neurospicy” or “neurosparkly” (my personal favourite, hence part of the name of this blog). Others do not. I’ll use my preferred terms. If you prefer others, absolutely

fine. Live and let live, and all that. ✌️

If you have any questions, or if I can help you in any way, please do feel free to ask and I’ll do my very best. However I’m also an extremely busy bee, so it may take a while. Bear with, and be kind, please and thank you. 😘
